DIY: Chunky/Slouchy Beret (Beginner’s version/Christmas gift idea)

DIY tutorials are really difficult to film, but I really wanted to get this one in because it’s a great gift idea for christmas! This is for beginners so even if you’ve never crochet before, you could probably still get this. It will just take a longer amount of time for you to get it done. It takes me 20 minutes to do this, which isn’t too bad. My favorite accessory for the fall/winter season is a beret! I hope you enjoy this simplified version of a beret tutorial. There are many ways, styles, and methods to make a beret, but this is the most simple one I could think of to show. I could make a more advanced one with cuter crochet designs if i get a lot of requests :) Have a happy holiday season, xoxo tracey crochet stick used: Boye 5.50 MM (bought @ walmart) yarn: Red Heart blog: www.traceybeautyblog.blogspot.com twitter www.twitter.com tumblr: www.traceynguyen.tumblr.com aim xtraceynguyen email: lovemetracee@yahoo.com business email: heytraceybeauty@yahoo.com blogtv: blogtv.com DISCLAIMER: I purchased everything myself.

I love , love , love this video! You make it look so easy! Thank you so much! Can you pls make more videos?? Plsss? And also how did you make that little pom pom ? And how do you attach it to the beret ?

Can I do this design with thinner yarn?

When you’re starting the rows, after you crochet the first section and you say “put it in the hole” do you mean the second hole or the first?

When are you going to put up more crocheting videos.I have been crocheting for years but love your videos just wish there was a pattern I could print out.I guess I’ll sit down and write the pattern up for myself.

actually i really think a more advanced version would be amazing!

I love your video! I just started crocheting and almost gave up because I was so frustrated until I watched your video. It was so easy to follow along with AND such a cute hat! Thank you for making the video! Now I can make some Xmas presents =)

mine ended being a little tight and small, I think I skipped a step, but it was my frist try, and it wasn’t bad.

After you make the chain and get ready to start the pattern, are you skipping every other chain to make it look loose? Like if you look at 4:03, it looks like you skip a chain? Would this give it the loose look?

@jenglz11 red heart

Best tutorial made it in just under 4 hours, sooooooo cute thx!!

i love your tutorial but i think i may be dumb you explain it so easy but i just cant get it :(

what brand of yarn do you use for this?

Great tutorial but I used a 5.5 mm crochet needle and it didn’t come out as loose and slouchy as yours! Wah! And what type of yarn did you use? Is it bulky? Thanks for the info!

This was my first crochet project and it came great! You are a great teacher. I would love to see a video from you on how to crochet a trendy shawl… They seem to be popular this fall 2011 season. Perhaps something easier and with a more loose crochet? Thanks!

Thanks soo much for this tutorial! I literally just learned to crochet Sunday, via YT of course, and it is Friday and it is complete. I’ve always wanted a beret like this but didn’t know where to get one. You gave excellent instructions and I’m even surprised I could follow so well. THUMBS UP! :)

I think I might have done the hat too tight…I got a 224 yard of yarn and I’m almost done with it…and I’m only on the 3rd pattern…I hope it turns out okay, lol

@TheAmazingLauren98 The first thing she does is a basic slipknot. Every chain (the loops after it) are just slipknots one after another. I take the end of the yarn, and cross it over itself, like a big ‘P’ with the short end doing the crossing. Reach through the space of the ‘P’ and pull the long length of the yarn thru while holding the short piece steady. Voila, slipknot.

@TheAmazingLauren98 It’s called a slip knot, I believe. You just start like you’re going to tie a regular knot, but don’t pull the end string all the way through. (hopefully that helped?) :3

@traceybeauty Hey Tracey I really love my chunky beret. I cannot wait for it to get cold so that I can show it off. You really did a good job on the tutorial please do more!

@traceybeauty okay, this probably sounds really pathetic but i can’t do the first step! u aren’t doing a regular knot and i cant see what you are doing with your fingers so i cant imitate it, i want to do this SO badly but i cant now :( i tried a few random knots and when i do the first chain it just pulls out my knot? SO frustrating, ive tried it 30 times already. is there a certain name to the knot so i can look it up or can you explain to me how you made it?? thank you

I think the trick to this is to keep the stitches EXTREMELY loose. I made mine moderately loose, same hook size and everything, I even added an extra row, and it ended up looking like a chef hat.

I wish you make more videos like this one for the beginners.I was looking for a hat
like this one for my daughter.I made the infinity scarf.Thank you
