There’s an extra coat of hot wax on Pixar’s vibrant, NASCAR-influenced comedy about a world populated entirely by cars. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the slick rookie taking the Piston Cup series by storm when the last race of the season (the film’s high-octane opening) ends in a three-way tie. On the way to the tie-breaker race in California, Lightning loses his way off Route 66 in the Southwest desert and is taught to stop and smell the roses by the forgotten citizens of Radiator Springs. It’s odd to have such a slim story from the whizzes of Pixar, and the film pales a bit from their other films (though can that be a fair comparison?). Nonetheless, Cars is another gleaming ride with Pixar founder John Lasseter, who’s directing for the first time since Toy Story 2. There’s the usual spectrum of excellent characters teamed with appropriate voice talent, loads of smooth humor for kids and parents alike, knockout visuals, and a colorful array of sidekicks, including a scene-stealing baby blue forklift named Guido. Lightning’s plight is changed with the help of former big-city lawyer Sally Carrera (Pixar veteran Bonnie Hunt), the town’s patriarch Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), and kooky tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy). The Incredibles was the first Pixar film to break the 100-minute barrier, but had enough story not to suffer; Cars, at 116 minutes (including some must-see end credit footage), is not as fortunate, plus it never pierces the heart. Trivia fans should have bonanza with the frame-by-frame DVD function; the movie is stuffed with in-jokes, some appearing only for an instant. Ages 5 and up. –Doug Thomas

“Cars” tells the story of a hot-shot rookie racecar named Lightning McQueen who really cares about life winning the fast lane. As he is on his way for the Piston Cup finals, he gets lost in an old, lost and forgettable town called Radiator Springs. He accidentally tears the place and is forced by all the citizens of Radiator Springs to fix the town. Along the ways of repair, he ends up falling in love with all the folks of Radiator Springs and learns the importance of friendship than fame.
I can understand that critics thought “Cars” was the worst Pixar film of all-time. But to me, it’s not. I’m sure the worst of Pixar though is still considered entertainment and in my opinion, the worst Pixar film is “The Incredibles,” because I didn’t think anything about it to love, but still, you never actually got something wrong with Pixar because they make great animated movies. It sure doesn’t beat the first “Toy Story” and “Finding Nemo,” but its still heck a lot of fun.
“Cars” gave back memories of the fact that when I was young and use to be into trains and Thomas the Tank Engine (but hey, that was me when I was very young), and John Lasseter sure brings back the charm that he created when making child-friendly scripts with the “Toy Story” films and he sure delivers all the joy in the director’s chair since “Toy Story 2.” He is like the Walt Disney of computer animation, alias CGI.
I sure don’t think “Cars” beats off “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E,” and their new hit, “Up,” but it sure beats off “A Bug’s Life” and “The Incredibles.” I know most people won’t agree but that’s just me. I still think that the folks at Pixar have made a movie to be somewhat like “Toy Story” and yet it is still a good movie. They do take references off of “Thomas & Friends.” “Cars” will sure delight children and adults of all ages. There’s a lot of adult humor so its definitely worth it.
I don’t see a whole point in getting the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack on Blu-Ray. I still own the DVD and don’t yet have the Blu-Ray, which is what I would like to point out in this review. The Blu-Ray features are just what you expect on the original 2007 Blu-Ray, though I just got a Blu-Ray player last year, so I should at least catch up on cool Blu-Ray moments. But this won’t be one of them. I mean there’s nothing wrong with getting a complete collection of the Pixar releases on Blu-Ray, but for “Cars,” the original Blu-Ray re-release was in 2007, which is two years ago, since we’re still in 2009, and there will be a sequel in 2011, so I think its worth the wait to see a 2-Pack containing both “Cars” and the sequel.
The DVD is included too which will contain the same features as the original 2006 release. Unfortunately, you won’t get a digital copy which would’ve make the re-release of this year to be a lot cooler. Yet again, I’m new to Blu-Ray, so I don’t think buying “Cars” on Blu-Ray is worth it since they haven’t released “Cars 2.” Hopefully, they’ll end up putting up both films on sale for a good price and that’s when I will be ready. Like that, I won’t be surprised if the first two “Toy Story” films are worth buying on Blu-Ray right away since they need to release “Toy Story 3″ and then end up having a trilogy containing all three “Toy Story” films.
That’s just my motto.
If you’re a big fan of “Cars” and are new to Blu-Ray, I’d say wait till there’s a two pack containing both that one and the second film or if in 2011, Amazon sells both of the two for a discount. Don’t waste your money on this just yet.

Well pleased with the item, cost me $30, it was the first item i have purchased from Amazon, ans it will now bw the last, after being stung another $20+ for VAT and import duty, because they didnt put the correct tick on the customs box on the address label, in summery, what was a very good deal turned out to be not such a great price!

Of course the movie is wonderful. The Blu-Ray is outstanding and it comes with a DVD version.
I bought the gift set because it was an inexpensive way to get the Blu-Ray (it was priced well below the Blu-Ray price during a Christmas sale). The toy cars are of a sub-standard quality and not worth paying extra. I would not recommend buying this unless it was less expensive than just the Blu-Ray disc.
